Marks Gospel

 Who is Jesus? Mark's Gospel

The Gospel of Mark is a short biography of Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection. It presents Jesus as the Messiah, the person anointed by God. Unlike the stories of emperors who use power to rule, Jesus uses his power to serve others: healing the sick, feeding the hungry and forgiving sins.

Mark begins with his baptism, when God speaks to him as "my beloved Son" (Mark 1:11). Jesus then travels through Galilee and Judea, performing miracles and preaching the advent of the Kingdom of God not a political kingdom with rulers, but a spiritual one based on love, justice and mercy. All things God wants to spread throughout the world.

The ending of the Gospel is important to a lot of people, Jesus is arrested and crucified. But three days later, his tomb is found empty. His resurrection proves that he was truly the son of God.

A Miracle: Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35–41)

One of the miracles of Jesus was calming a raging storm. Jesus and his disciples were on a boat when a terrible storm struck them. The disciples feared for their lives, but Jesus spoke and said, "Peace! Be still!", the sky cleared and the storm faded away.

This miracle shows us that Jesus is Lord over nature itself. But it also reminds us that we must learn to trust Jesus in any circumstance, when we are following him in obedience to his will. As Romans who face trials and wars this is a powerful message: with faith in Jesus and God, we are never alone.

A Parable: The Mustard Seed (Mark 4:30–32)

Jesus often taught people using parables, short stories with a deep hidden meaning. One that is among the favourites is the Parable of the Mustard Seed. The Kingdom of God, Jesus said, is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, that grows into the largest of garden plants with birds coming to rest in it.

This story reminds us that even the smallest acts of faith or kindness towards people, Jesus and God himself can turn into something amazing. It encourages us that change doesn't have to start big, one Roman turning to God can create a ripple effect throughout the empire.

Why This Gospel Matters To Us Romans

Mark was likely writing to early Christians in Rome who were facing persecution. He shows that Jesus also faced injustice but won in the end. For any Roman struggling with suffering or fear, this is a message of hope.

Final Thoughts: A Message for My Fellow Citizens

I never thought I’d find spiritual strength outside our traditional gods. But reading Mark’s Gospel opened my eyes to a man who was not only a healer and teacher but the Son of God.

If you are a Roman like myself, searching for truth and peace in an unfair world, read the Gospel of Mark. It won't just make you learn about Jesus could very well change your life like it has mine.

Truly this man was the Son of God." – Mark 15:39
